Creating a transactional account

These steps are for creating a transactional account. To learn how to create a quick account, click here.

  1. In the left navigation pane, click Portfolio Management. The Portfolio Management tab opens.  

  2. In the left-hand column, click Accounts. The Accounts spreadsheet opens.

  3. On the Action Shortcut bar, click . The Find Client/Prospect dialog opens.

  4. Find the client or prospect for whom you are creating the account and highlight the name.

  5. Click OK. The New Account dialog opens.

  6. Select Transactional Account and click OK. The Account Basics dialog opens. All fields in blue are required.

  7. In the Account Name box, enter in the name for the account. Morningstar Office pre-populates several fields. Edit these as necessary and fill in additional fields as desired.

  8. Click . The Transaction Blotter opens. You may enter transactions directly through this blotter. However, we are going to go through the steps of using the Transaction Wizard. (Because you can enter any transaction for any security type, there are numerous columns available for data input, but not all are required.)

  9. Click . The Transaction Wizard opens. In the Symbol/CUSIP box, enter the ticker for the security. (Or click the Security Name magnifying glass to open the Add Security dialog. Find the desired security and click OK.)

  10. Click the Transaction Type arrow to select the transaction you are entering. Depending on the transaction type you choose, different fields will appear.

  11. Enter in the transaction data. Fields in blue are required.

  12. When you are done entering transaction data, you have three options: , , and .
