Quick Accounts: Floating or Fixed Allocation

For Quick accounts, you can select Floating Allocation (default) or Fixed Allocation.

Floating Allocation: A floating allocation account maintains the number of shares of each holding and updates the market value of each holding within the account on a daily basis.  Assign share amounts to any number of holdings and when the prices are updated, the value of each individual holding will update while the share amount remains the same.

So when should I create a fixed-allocation account vs. a floating-allocation account?

A floating allocation account updates the market value of your account on a daily basis. This is the more commonly used format as it more accurately depicts the current status of your account.

So when should I create fixed-allocation portfolio vs. a floating-allocation portfolio?

A floating allocation account updates the market value of your account on a daily basis. This is the more commonly used format as it more accurately depicts the current status of your account.

Fixed allocation accounts are primarily used to create model accounts that maintain dollar allocation over time so the allocation is not affected by market fluctuations.
